Abound's Commitment to Toppers on The Hill
Purple goes well with red - together Abound Credit Union and Western Kentucky University (WKU) are creating unmatched opportunities for students.
Abound's combined $750k+ commitment to WKU has opened doors for all students - starting with freshmen who are brand new to The Hill. Abound sponsors M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan each year, a mandatory transition program designed for the first-year WKU students. This weeklong event allows students to acclimate to campus life, meet new friends, learn about WKU traditions, and access important resources. Abound is one of those resources. Team Members are committed to meeting students where they are, showing up with games, presentations, giveaways and one-on-one conversations to show these brand-new students that Abound is ready to be part of their journey. Whether that be through financial counseling, sponsoring their favorite art show, providing them a part-time job, pointing out our nearest branch - Abound is supporting these new Hilltoppers.
WKU's brand new Gordon Ford College of Business (inside Amy and David Chandler Hall) is the home of WKU's Center for Financial Success, sponsored by Abound Credit Union. Our sponsorship doubles the number of student employees within the center. These finance students provide one-on-one financial counseling to peers - teaching budgeting, spending, credit building, student loan management and more. The sponsorship will expand the reach these students have across campus, through events and presentations. The sponsorship will also make financial literacy initiatives possible on campus, such as Financial Literacy Week, coming in 2026. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on October 2, 2025 inside Amy and David Chandler Hall.
Some of the students employed by the WKU Center for Financial Success helped run WKU's Personal Finance Camp, made possible by Abound. This is a weeklong camp (for high school students) to stay on campus and learn from experts during a hands-on engaging five-day residential camp hosted by WKU department of Finance and WKU's Center for Financial Success, sponsored by Abound Credit Union. Students compete in a team-based, financial planning case study. This case study is designed to immerse students in the various aspects of personal finance. Students will leave camp having learned basic personal finance principles needed for success in college and the marketplace, assisted by what is now known as "Abound Day," where Credit Union team members and Executives teach lessons, facilitate activities, and do Q&As with the students. They gain a better understanding of the personal financial planning career field.
The Arts are not left out of Abound's vision for student success. Abound understands financial literacy is an imperative component of overall health and wellness for individuals. To further support WKU's commitment to this idea, Abound continues to commit to Abound Credit Union Celebration of the Arts, hosted at the Kentucky Museum. This competitive exhibition is open to all residents 18 years of age or older, living in a Kentucky county which falls within a 65-mile radius of Bowling Green.
Abound remains committed to Military students through our Textbooks for Troops program. Abound has allocated $15,000 to help military students (or students who are part of a military family) purchase textbooks year-round. The effort relieves stress from these students (and families), allowing them to focus on their studies and successes.
Throughout the year, Abound also supports other initiatives, such as the Hilltopper Excellence Awards, providing education for student employees of Housing & Residential Life, and being present for all the exciting events, expansions, and initiatives taking place on Campus!
